Mary Kathleen abandoned uranium mine

Image
The kids were a little disappointed when we told them there was going to be no water to swim in at Mary Kathleen abandoned uranium mine and township, but when they discovered the vast variety of rocks they were very excited. I'm sure they could spend weeks finding and crushing rocks and exploring caves and old mines. Such an interesting place to explore.  Teaching the boys about sample holes drilled in the ground,  exploration drilling, this one was 100m deep.

Mount Isa

Such an interesting town. We practically had the Moondarra caravan park to ourselves for the weekend. We explored Lake Moondarra and all its little lake side parks, the underground museum and hospital in Mount Isa, lookouts and the kids had a ball at the Irish club indoor play centre, the pump track and the skate park.  We did get a little confused about the sign someone needed a nap at the pump track.  who is that weird lady😆 such cute baby scales.

Camooweal

Ah the Camooweal Billabong, a gorgeous little oasis free camp spot. We stayed a few days and just loved all the abundant bird life, beautiful water lillies, a short half day trip to the Camooweal Caves, mud to play in and some swimming. Great spot to relax for a few days after a long drive. Camooweal caves  saying goodbye to our new friends as they continue their journey, maybe we meet again some day.

Three Ways to QLD

Image
There is not much to see down the Barkly HWY between Three Ways and QLD, however we did find a couple of gems in amongst the dry dusty land. At the border, we made it! With friends we met on the road and travelling with for awhile.  Beautiful sunset at the border, what a way to welcome us to QLD.
